Dr. Sadanand Srivastava is Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Bowie and coordinator of the proposed PSM in IT Engineering. He has been at Bowie for 38 years, and has also taught in India, Canada, and Iraq, gaining a global perspective on higher education.
Dr. Srivastava’s research interests are in applied analysis, computational methods, attitude determinations, artificial intelligence, and user interface systems, publishing in national and International journals. His research is funded by NASA, the US Army, and NSF.
Dr. Srivastava is Project Director of the Bowie’s NSF-funded HBCU-UP project, called “BETTER.” He was PI of the NSF-funded planning grant “Implementing Community-Based Participatory Research…Women”. Dr. Srivastava is institutional director of the “Chesapeake Information Based Aeronautics Consortium,” funded by NASA, and has been PI of several other projects, such as a multiyear (1998-2003) NSF infrastructure grant (Project LEARN), a 3 year (1999-2002) NSF collaborative grant (CERI), a NASA grant (Agent-Based Information Processing Systems) and NSA/UMBC grant (Document Ontology and Agent Monitors).
He was Bowie’s institutional representative on the Maryland Collaborative Teachers Preparation program, funded by NSF. Dr. Srivastava was a member of the Board of Directors for MAITI (Maryland Applied Information Technology Initiative), and served on the Advisory Board for GAANN (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need).
Dr. Srivastava was the conference chair of ‘HBCU-UP National Research Conference- 2006’ and was on the advisory board for ‘HBCU-UP National Research Conference- 2007’. He was conference chair for the GDBA International Conference in 2007 and 2008.
