Morgan State University

Morgan State University is a Historically Black University located in Baltimore, north of the city center. The university has been legislatively designated as Maryland’s “Public Urban University” and in 2005 was classified as a Carnegie Doctoral Research University. Morgan’s mission is to serve a multiethnic and multiracial student body and to help ensure that the benefits of higher education are enjoyed by a broad segment of the population.

To accomplish this, the University offers a comprehensive program of studies at the undergraduate level and degrees in selected fields at the master’s and doctoral level. Each year, Morgan enrolls an average of 7,000 students in programs from the baccalaureate level through the doctorate. For over 140 years, Morgan State University has been an important part of the higher education system in Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, and the nation.

Throughout its history, Morgan has served the community with distinction while meeting the educational needs of an increasingly diverse society. Its designation as Maryland’s Public Urban University assures that Morgan will continue to play a prominent role in Maryland’s education future. During 1998-2008, the University experienced tremendous growth in its degree program inventory. Morgan now awards degrees in forty-one (41) undergraduate programs, thirty (30) master’s degree programs, and fifteen (15) doctoral programs.
