Virginia State University (VSU) was founded in 1882 as the first state-supported four-year institution of higher education for Blacks. Located in Petersburg, VSU is one of Virginia’s two land-grant institutions. The University offers 50 baccalaureate and master’s degree programs through the Schools of Engineering, Science, and Technology; Agriculture; Business; Liberal Arts and Education; and Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach.
At the graduate level, master’s degree programs are available in 15 disciplines, along with an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. STEM master’s programs are in biology, computer science, mathematics, and plant science. The University’s academic programs include the “Bridges to Baccalaureate” program for students transferring from two-year colleges who want to major in the sciences.
